Worlds first smartphone turns 20



On 16th August 2014, the first smartphone IBM Simon mobile phone turned 20.
It was developed by IBM and the American cellular company BelSelf. It went on sale in 1994.
Specifications of IBM Simon mobile phone:
  • It was around 23 cm long and weighed half a kg.
  • This phone had battery life of one hour.
  • It was called Simon because it was simple and could do almost anything you wanted.
  • It had green LCD screen and had touch screen technology.
  • Its software allowed users to write notes, draw, update their calendar and contacts and send and receive faxes, as well as allowing calls.
Around 50,000 handsets of this model were sold.
